FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Lamont County Names New CAO

February 3, 2022 – LAMONT, AB: The “interim” title has been removed from Lamont County Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Peter Tarnawsky, as Council approved his appointment to a permanent role. Council voted Tarnawsky to the position of CAO at its special council meeting on February 2. Tarnawsky was previously appointed the interim CAO of Lamont County in September 2021.

“We recognize the valuable skills and abilities our CAO has in working with municipalities, his leadership, strategy and advisory skills—as was evidenced during his interim time,” said Lamont County Reeve, David Diduck. “Part of naming a permanent CAO is ensuring stability of focus by our County administration on overall strategies.”

“We have an excellent administrator who is ready to take on this challenge and focus on serving the County, while bringing further structure to the role.”

Tarnawsky has an extensive background in administration, including previous roles as CAO of Sturgeon, Kneehill, and Cypress Counties. He is a recipient of the R.W. Hay Award for Rural Administrative Excellence in 2017.

The appointment is effective January 1, 2022. Priority and direction continue as established in the current Lamont County 2030 Strategic Plan.

“I am glad to have the continued opportunity to serve as Lamont County CAO,” said Peter Tarnawsky. “I look forward to working with and on behalf of Council to build on the County’s strategic plan and strengthening administration based on Council’s direction. I am excited with the progress we have made in the past six months across the organization.”

Since his arrival in September, Tarnawsky led multiple achievements and initiatives, including focus on critical priorities, five-year capital planning, hiring of staff in key positions, an improved (online) service request system, service delivery discussions, and the 2022 budget planning. Further analysis is published in the 2021 Year in Review and other budget, bridging and annual reporting planned for Q1/Q2 2022.
