NEWS RELEASE - Frequently Asked Questions Related to Municipal Government
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Frequently Asked Questions Related to Municipal Government
June 19, 2024 – LAMONT, AB: Lamont County Council and Administration is committed to providing accurate and transparent information. Questions frequently come from the community around procedures, practice and government administration—including legislated practices as per the Municipal Government Act (MGA). The MGA directs how municipalities operate, and have specific actions and procedures that must be followed.
To ensure the public receives accurate information and to clarify any misinformation, Lamont County has created the New FAQ and clarification page: https://lamontcounty.ca/FAQs.
This section addresses some of the frequently asked questions around municipal governance. It includes a “Division of Government” for more clarification around which level(s) of government are responsible for specific duties and responsibilities, as well as commonly asked questions around municipal government and processes.
In addition to providing clarification, the public can submit questions to clear up any rumours or information they have seen across social media and other platforms—where clarification may be needed. Administration will do its best to answer appropriate questions and clarity for these submissions. Answers may also be added into future editions of the public newsletter.
Council is committed to providing information to the public in recurring publications such as the annual service level and budget/operational highlights and reporting, the Reeve’s Year in Review, Lamont County’s strategic plan, tax inserts, highlights and council meeting agendas/minutes, inFocus (back of the Lamont Leader each week), and its annual financial statements and auditor reporting. See lamontcounty.ca/communications.
Each year, the public is invited to complete the Lamont County engagement survey, to increase public feedback for service levels and communication (typically launched in May/June). Feedback from this survey is used in service level and budget planning for future years. (https://surveymonkey.com/r/LamontCountyEngagement)
Later this year, residents will receive Lamont County’s NEW public newsletter. The first issue will be sent to all rural addresses to ensure awareness. Future editions will be accessible digitally and through email subscription and at Lamont County Administration Building.
Council is also committed to engaging in small venue coffee talks—where councillors and Administration will host local engagement sessions for the public, and provide update on initiatives and activities by hosting sessions at coffee shops across Lamont County. Session times and locations will be published later this year and any related topics may be summarized on our social media channels and lamontcounty.ca.
We encourage media and the public to explore these pages, and to attend the local engagement events.
