NEWS RELEASE – Needed Replacement and Community Support Garners a Curling Club Grant

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Needed Replacement and Community Support Garners a Curling Club Grant

September 9, 2025 – LAMONT, AB: As part of its community services grant funding, Lamont County Council has awarded a $25,000 donation to the Lamont Curling Club.

With aging equipment and infrastructure, replacement of the ice plant is a priority for the club to continue to operate curling programs for residents across Lamont County.

“Council has recognized the importance of the Curling Club as a recreational facility in Lamont County,” said Lamont County Reeve, David Diduck. “Replacement costs are a significant hardship to Club and I know that myself, as well as other councillors, have been curlers in the community, or have attended a number of the other community events held at the curling club. It is unfortunate that equipment needs to be replaced, but new ice processing and infrastructure replacements will have a positive impact on recreation for the community in the winter and year-round.”

Community programming and not for profit groups can apply for sponsorship (community sponsorship) throughout the year. Lamont County Council also has its Community Halls and Transportation Grant applications annually (Council recently granted 22 qualified applications with funding in 2025). See lamontcounty.ca/grants for more details and application requirements.

“In April of this year, the curling rink’s 'ice plant' suffered irreparable failure due to its age,” said Club Representative, Tim Bartz. “The Curling Club in conjunction with the Town of Lamont are financing a replacement unit to provide a continued recreational and social atmosphere for County residents. The Club’s goal is to raise $150,000 towards the new ice making unit and with the financial assistance from Lamont County and other donors, the project will ensure the Club’s success for many years to come. The Lamont Curling Club and its membership thanks Council for these funds.”
