FIRE BAN is issued for Lamont County effective April 23, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. This restriction is due to extreme fire hazard conditions in the region. 

This FIRE BAN is in effect for all Lamont County rural areas, including Hamlets.

Campfires, fireworks, exploding targets, charcoal barbeques, burn barrels, fires that require a fire permit, and any other type of outside burning are prohibited until further notice. Propane barbeques and ULC approved propane fueled fire pits are permitted.

NEW Off-Highway Restriction

No person shall operate an Off-Highway Vehicle on Municipal Property, Highway, Permitted Use Area, or trail in Lamont County during a Fire Ban and Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction.

The following municipalities are also under Fire BAN:

  • Lamont County;
  • Town of Bruderheim;
  • Town of Lamont;
  • Town of Mundare;
  • Village of Andrew; and 
  • Village of Chipman.  

A Fire BAN:  

  1. PROHIBITS any/all uncontained burning activities (open-air burning), including the issuance of fire permits, the discharge of fireworks and the use of exploding targets; 
  2. RESCINDS all previously approved fire permits and fireworks discharge permits;  
  3. MEANS there are absolutely no outdoor fires permitted including, but not limited to, open fires, campfires, brush piles and burning barrels. The discharge of fireworks is also prohibited during this ban. No new fire permits will be issued during the period of the ban and all previously issued permits remain cancelled.

  4. ALLOWS Gas fueled barbeques with lids and liquid fueled camping stoves and fire pits (Camp Fire in a Can) ONLY.
  5. IMPORTANT: A person who sets a fire during this ban may be prosecuted and will be responsible for the costs of extinguishing the fire pursuant to Lamont County Regional Fire Services Bylaw 847.22 For information, please contact Lamont County, (780) 895-2233.

Please take care with all other activities around your property that could produce a fire hazard. 

This FIRE BAN continues until further notice and until fire hazard conditions improve significantly; please check this site frequently for updates.

Please note that BRUSH PILE/DEMOLISHED BUILDING PERMITS will no longer be issued for this season. All current permits of these types expire on February 28 (29) annually. As per County Policy, there shall be no brush pile burning between April 1 and October 31 of each year. REMINDER: BURN PERMITS are not issued between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2 as per Lamont County Policy #4121. Burning and permits are not allowed from December 23 through January 2 inclusive. Thank you for your cooperation.

No open fires or burning are allowed in campgrounds or in any other area within the County, no exceptions. 

ALL FIRE PERMITS ARE SUSPENDED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

  • Propane Barbeques will be allowed for cooking purposes only. And MUST be attended to at all times while in use.
  • No burn barrels.
  • No warming fires.
  • No burning is permitted during this fire ban.

All-Terrain Vehicles used on public land is not permitted.

WHERE IS THE FIRE BAN?
The fire ban applies to all areas within Lamont County including campgrounds.

WHAT IS PROHIBITED?
All open fires within the County are banned, including campfires in campgrounds and random camping areas. This includes charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers and tiki torches. Fireworks, flying lanterns and exploding targets are also prohibited.

WHAT IS ALLOWED?
Certified CSA Portable propane fire pits and gas propane stoves designed for cooking or heating.
