First settled in 1892, Chipman was named after Clarence Campbell Chipman, secretary to Sir Charles Tupper. Many of the settlers were of Ukrainian ancestry, including Wasyl Eleniak, one of the first Ukrainians to settle in the west.

Visitors will be delighted to see members of the Edmonton Soaring Club floating overhead in their gliders after they have taken off from the Chipman airstrip. Those hungry for Ukrainian cuisine can take in the pyrogy suppers held throughout the year at the Chipman Golden Seniors’ Drop-In Centre. Gentlemen, start your engines. Chipman comes alive during the Motorcycle Rally & Demo Days, fan-favourite Car Crafters Show & Shine and Fair Days in June. Strut your stuff during the Lions Club Harvest Dance in October.

Located on Hwy 15, less than an hour from Edmonton and Sherwood Park and northeast of Elk Island National Park, the Village of Chipman proudly proclaims itself as “Coyote Country”. The rich history of Chipman is displayed in a superb collection of photographs lining the walls of the Village Administration Building. A mural in the Community Meeting Room and the Remembrance Day Mural, on the wall of the Golden Seniors Drop-in Centre, are rich depictions of our history. Chipman also has 3 of Lamont County's 47 churches; a monument at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery honours Wasyl Eleniak, one of the first Ukrainian settlers to arrive in the west in 1891.

A perfect opportunity to visit Chipman comes with the ever-popular pyrogy suppers at the Golden Seniors Drop-In Centre on the last Friday in January, March, May, September & November. Or plan to attend the Chipman Car Crafters annual Show & Shine. Attracting more people every year, the event provides entertainment for all. Also in June, the Chipman Agricultural Society Old Time Fair promises activities and fun for the whole family.
Gliders float overhead after taking off from the nearby Edmonton Soaring Club, which invites visitors to “Come Soar With Us”.
Chipman is proud and excited to be the site of a long-term development project that began in 2008, transforming the community with attractive retail, commercial and residential areas.
