Babas and Borshch 2014 Media Launch

The run up toward the Babas and Borshch Ukrainian Festival for 2014 was officially launched on Thursday, July 19 at the Ukrainian Youth Unity Center in Edmonton. Festival coordinator Hazel Anaka was on hand with Lamont County’s Economic Development Manager Jim Newman, for the media launch.

The event had an impressive turnout, with representatives from 8 media stations including television, radio and print, who were entertained with music from Button Box Bill (Bill Okrainec and Eugene Kozac), a Ukrainian dance number by 6-year-old Maisey MacDonald, and a pysanky demonstration by Paul Gagner. Kelly Scott, a Cheremosh dancer, was also present in her beautiful costume, and demonstrated some spins for the cameras.
The event was topped off with an impressive and delicious Ukrainian lunch buffet with holubtsi (cabbage rolls), pyrohy (perogies), kovbasa and borshch supplied by Sandy’s Ukrainian Foods.

Babas and Borshch Ukrainian Festival will be held August 23-24 in Andrew, Alberta. The FREE festival will highlight the best of Ukrainian culture – food, music, crafts and much more.
