Winter Maintenance
Lamont County strives to provide a quick and efficient maintenance program during the winter months.  It normally takes between 3 to 4 days for all local gravel roads to be cleared of snow, and after a severe snow storm it may take longer.  Ensure you have enough heating fuel and supplies on hand for several days.  Notify your employer beforehand that you live in a rural setting and may not be able to travel in the event of a storm.

Medical emergencies, such as ambulance assistance will be immediately attended to. Any medical appointments should be rescheduled once travel can safely be achieved.

Private Snow Removal
Lamont County provides this service to rural residents who wish to purchase “driveway flags” for snow removal of their driveway. Driveway flags can be purchased at the Lamont County Office, Mundare Town Office and Andrew Village Office for a cost of $25 per flag. The flag is good for one driveway clearing.   Flags must be displayed at the entrance to the driveway and will be picked up by the operator at the completion of the work.  In times of heavy snowfall, the County’s first priority will be to open the roadways.  Driveways will be opened once all roadways have been cleared.  For additional information see Policy #5100 (link).

Dust Control
County residents who would like dust control in front of their residences may purchase dust control through our Administration Office. The dust control program runs during the summer months and is dependant upon the weather. Pricing for residential dust control is set annually at the beginning of April and easements (link) must be signed by the landowner before the commencement of the work. The 2007 pricing for 400 feet of dust control is currently set for $1700. For additional information view Policy #5101 (link).

Road Gravelling
Currently roads are re-graveled on an approximate 5-year rotation basis with 225 – 250 miles re-graveled each year.  Roads are also graveled on an as needed basis.  The County owns its own trucks and completes the entire road gravelling program in house.

Winter Stockpiling
