Crop Burning Permit Deadline Extended

At the June 13, 2017, Council meeting, a motion was passed to extend the deadline to apply for a special one-time fire permit, for landowners with unharvested crops who would like to burn as a way to quickly remove the crop. The deadline for burning has been extended to July 31, 2017. Please be advised effective December 7, 2016, at 3:15 p.m. Lamont County Emergency Services has begun allowing fire permits to be issued, with the exception of the area that encompasses the Skaro Fire Area. If your property experienced any damage due to flooding at it is not covered under your homeowner's insurance, please contact the County at 780-895-2233 and let us know! April 22, 2015 UPDATE: 10:37 a.m. Early last night (Thursday evening) there were several fire flare-ups: North of TWP 574 between RR 191 and 192 in heavy bush near the DC power lines.  South of TWP 580 between RR 191 and 192, cuts were made to provide future access for equipment. Issuing of Fire Permits to Cease Immediately

Please be advised, the issuing of fire permits will cease immediately. The end date, normally March 31, 2016 will not apply; that date has been moved to today February 19th, 2016. Fire advisory notices will be placed on our phone line, Alberta fire site and in the media. Further developments may include a full fire ban as surveys have concluded the fire danger is rising and soil moisture is extremely low.

A number of serious and fatal accidents have occurred as a result of this practice. Drums that contain residual flammable substances or vapors may explode when exposed to heat or sparks.
