Close to 100 paid-on-call firefighters provide fire protection services for Lamont County and the urban municipalities. Fire services are operated out of five fire districts. These stations are located in Andrew, Bruderheim, Chipman, Lamont and Mundare.

We are seeking Paid On-call responders to join the Lamont County Emergency Services team. We have five fire districts managed by Lamont County's Regional Fire Chief and Deputy Regional Fire Chief.
Fire districts include Andrew, Bruderheim, Chipman, Lamont and Mundare. Crews work together across all districts for emergency response.
No pre-service training required.
Who are Paid On-call Responders?
Our paid responders are amazing people that wish to help their communities. Coming from all walks of life, these individuals want to make a difference and keep the community safe.
Our paid responders provide their time to train and respond to incidents and work beside firefighters from across Lamont County Emergency Services. Paid On-call staff are trained, dedicated and committed to helping people in their time of need.
Paid responders are compensated by Lamont County to train and respond to incidents; the training provided is internationally recognized and transferable.
What do Paid On-call Responders do?
Paid On-call responders are trained to respond to emergency incidents of all kinds. They respond to fires, rescues, medical, hazardous materials, and many other types of calls. Paid On-call responders train to achieve required skills. They maintain and clean equipment and apparatus and work with our partners to mitigate emergency incidents. They also support their respective communities through public education and support of community activities.
Paid On-call responders will be able to complete training in diverse competencies such as:
- Firefighting.
- Vehicle rescue and extrication.
- Medical pre-hospital care.
- Wildland firefighting.
- Dangerous goods.

What you need to apply
If you’re interested in becoming a paid on-call responder, you're required to:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a current Alberta Driver’s License.
- Demonstrate a safe driving record with a Driver Abstract.
- Have a Grade 12 education.
- Have a clean RCMP Criminal Record Check - vulnerable sector.
- Have a doctors letter confirming you’re medically fit to perform firefighting duties.
- If you are between the ages of 16-18 you can apply to become a Junior Firefighter.

What we expect
As a paid on-call responder, we will expect:

- Aptitude for physically demanding but rewarding work.
- Additional 2.5 hour training sessions per week.
- Some weekend training is involved.

Join the Lamont County Emergency Services as a Junior Firefighter today!
Open to residents aged 16-18 in Lamont County and its surrounding municipalities (Andrew, Bruderheim, Chipman, Lamont and Mundare). It is a great opportunity for high school students to explore their own abilities, work with firefighters, and learn important life and leadership skills.
Some fire learning takes place in the classroom, but a lot happens out in the field, guided by professional firefighters, using real firefighting equipment.
It’s a great way to be physically and mentally engaged, while learning about yourself and your potential. The one-semester program may also earn you high school credits!
You’re eligible if you:
- Are between 16 and 18 years old.
- Have an interest in firefighting and emergency medical co-response.
- Are comfortable with physically demanding tasks.
Time commitment:
- Eight to 10 hours per month.
